Low-Level Software Hilarity

I have been trying to get my feet wet with FPGA and ASIC design/development, which involves software tools like Magic and Vivado/Vitis, and it is hilarious how "incompatible" these tools are for general usage. Magic is 40 years old and its age becomes obvious the second one looks at the screen and starts clicking around. Vivado is a little easier to install and use, but Vitis has not even launched yet on the two computers I have installed it on. While these issues can be viewed as somewhat typical for a novice user, it's still crazy to me how such widespread "industry standard" tools can be so janky. On the bright side, this presents an excellent opportunity for innovation in this undoubtedly growing market, given how low the bar appears to be.
